The global elite of high divers competed during the 2012 Cliff Diving World Series in 7 countries on 3 continents. Each of the venues was spectacular and unique, with the final event and crowning of the World Champion taking place on September 27, 2012 at the canyon-like water course Wadi Shab in the Sultanate of Oman.
Thirteen divers from 9 countries were competing, with Gary Hunt of the UK taking the overall title as the three-time grand champion of this global competition.
This is the first time that this cliff diving event, sponsored by the Austrian-based energy drink company Red Bull, has taken place on the Arabian peninsula. Chosen for its spectacular scenery and the welcoming support of Oman, Wadi Shab was converted from a narrow valley lined with date palms into a spectacular arena for viewing the divers leaping from 27 meters into the emerald green waters below, before a crowd of 5000 Omani and expat spectators.
