Excursion for civil engineers of the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics / University of Stuttgart 2009

In autumn 2009, Prof. Dr. Sedlbauer (Department of Physics, University of Stuttgart and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics) led a trip through Oman and the Emirates.

The project involved more than 40 students of civil engineering. The aim of the excusion was an analysis of climatically adapted construction methods, then and now.

The German-Omani Association helped design the program, arranged contacts at the GU-TEch, and provided general background information and Omani yearbooks for the participants.

The extremely interesting 500-page comprehensive report deals extensively with traditional designs and presents them in contrast to the options and problems of modern construction in this region's very difficult climate.
