"Learning by Experience - Lernen durch Erfahrung" clearly states the idea of this study trip to Oman. A total of nine students from the Faculty of General Education of the Otto-Friedrich University in Bamberg had the opportunity to develop their intercultural competence through a preparatory seminar and a subsequent study tour in February / March 2011, .
The preparatory seminar and the travel were part of a quantitative research design, to be evaluated in the context of the thesis of Ms. Natalie Ott, who largely organized the excursion by herself.
Accompanying this journey was Professor Dr. Patrick Franke, Professor of Islamic Studies at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg, who was able to contribute rich background knowledge, in addtion to his fluenet Arabic skills and many years' experience traveling to Arab countries
The final planning and organization of the study tour was conducted in close cooperation with the German-Omani Association.
In addition, the trip was financially supported by the GOA with EUR 1000 and by PROMOS scholarships of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).
Thanks to an initiative of the GOA, the group was further supported by special airfares from Oman Air and by Omani tour operator Mark Tours, which provided local transportation.
